Kimberly Winson-Geideman

Brownfield and Land Reuse Expert

Kimberly Winson-Geideman is an Assistant Professor of Real Estate in the College of Business at the University of North Texas where she teaches real estate finance and principles at both the undergraduate and graduate level.  Kimberly holds an MS and PhD from Cleveland State University in Urban Affairs with concentrations in organizational leadership and planning and development, respectively.  She has held tenure track positions at Texas A&M University (2005-07) and Savannah State University (2003-05).

Dr. Geideman’s primary research interest is in residential property valuation.  She has published in the Journal of Real Estate Research, the Appraisal Journal, and the Journal of Environmental Planning and Management on topics ranging from the impact of contamination on value, brownfield policy, and land reuse.  She recently began pursuing a line of research that evaluates the economics of historic preservation after establishing a close alliance with one of the premier non-profit preservation groups in the United States.  Current projects assess the impact of age on value, valuing historic preservation easements, and the relationship between preservation and economic development.  She has also written about coastal development policy and office property valuation and has presented her work both nationally and internationally.

Before she obtained her doctorate, Dr. Geideman spent several years working in land development specializing in large, mixed-use projects.  She was responsible for the acquisition of large tracts of raw land and securing public approval for numerous housing developments.  She worked closely with the City of Cleveland, Ohio on a federally-sponsored program which resulted in the production of 435 owner-occupied housing units targeting low and moderate income buyers.  This combination of education and industry experience gives Kimberly a unique perspective on planning and development issues and is a welcome contribution to X-Sense.
